The Enneagram is a system of relating 9 types of personalities.
There are Nine point of views and all people will find that they relate to one
of these points of view. Once you have determined your type, you can use
the system to improve yourself and improve your relationships with friends,
lovers, and everyone else on Earth!
Some may complain that they don't like being defined by a specific type or
put into a box, but you're not! You're being put into a nine pointed star!
Ha Ha Ha!
Just remember that it is a beginning point of understanding, not an end point.
I am always eager to talk Enneagram with anyone who wants to.
Here is MY short summary of each personality type
(Maybe you don't recognize yourself by the title, but it is just a title!)

MOVIE EXAMPLES:
Characters that make good Enneagram type examples. Of course, this is just based on MY judgements to give you a referable example for the types, but none of these are the ultimate example. But it’s a good place to start if you are interested. Like, you can see a few movie examples for the 1 type and compare the different characters to see what qualities they all share and then you’ll know a little about what kind of person a 1 is.
And as always, if you think of a movie you’d like to add to the list, e-mail me!
1. The Perfectionist:
The Odd Couple: Felix (Jack Lemmon) is a 1 with a 4 line. Perfectionist,
demands that everyone folow his rules, neat freak, cries
easily, very sensitive and wants to be validated by the
good things he does for everyone else.
Thelma & Louise: Louise (Susan Sarandon) is a 1. Uses anal retentive
ziplock bags for packing, always dressed and pressed for
work, mad when things get off schedule, harder for her to
relax and have fun. She's the responsible one, but is
frustrated with the burden.
Sex and the City: Miranda is a 1. Very rigid about the way she lives her life,
really needs a routine to go through to be stable and happy,
sees the world and all in it as right and wrong (nothing
inbetween), doesn’t like to receive help from others, it’s
hard to gain her trust, mostly pessimistic because the world
can’t live up to her standards.
( + Steve = classic 1-9 couple. He balances out her nerosis
with his more relaxed approach to life. It takes him a while
to get ambitious, but eventually he opens his own bar, it
just took him a little bit longer than it would have taken
Miranda if she was opening a bar.)
Election: Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) is a 1. She is very eager to
succeed because being the best and number one and involved in
everything and doing everything is what will make her a good
person. She knows she is the right one for the job, she wants to be
good at everything. Her hard work and lonliness as the only
serious person eventually pays off and it is implied that she gets
some big government job, at the end of the movie.
The Mosquito Coast: Harrison Ford plays an idealistic father. He is full of
resentment for the consumeristic world of America and
he has drive to invent things and be self sufficient. He
goes to Honduras to make a perfect society and he
orders around his family and a bunch of other random
people. Much of the movie is made of up scenes of
Harrison Ford walking by someone and shouting out
an order to them. He must be in control and will not let
anyone else control him.
2. The Helper:
Legally Blonde: Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is a 2 with a 3 wing. Very
happy and cheerful and helpful, with a drive to succeed!
Focused on her image and how she presents herself to the
world everyday.
Sex and the City: Charlotte is a 2. Almost always happy, always looking her
best and aware of her appearance. Into monogamy and
getting to be someone else’s right-hand man. Enjoys
helping others and playing the supporting role, but
sometimes uses such a position for manipulation!
( + Trey 3 = the very common 2-3 couple, he’s the big
successful man and she’s his trophy and doting backbone
of their family.)
( + Harry 8 = the very common 2-8 couple, he’s brash and
strong and honest and is always real.)
3. The Achiever:
Wall Street: Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) is a 3. He is so driven to
succeed that he will ruthlessly do anything in order to stay on top
and make money. He also is extremely concerned with his image
and his image always must be that of wealth, status, importance
and success. His material possessions are the best of the best
and he never appears weak to his competitors.
4. The Romantic:
The French Lieutenant's Woman: Meryl Streep "F.L.woman" is a 4. She is
constantly longing for her lost love. She is
swept up in the troubled past and the
infinite depressing future living without that
love that she had, but lost. Lost in her own
sorrows and takes on the sadness of
other's loss too. Very dramatic, she
simply cannot go on once she has lost her
love, never to love again.
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie: Maggie Smith plays a teacher at an all girl's
school and she fills their minds with art and
romantic whimsical words and imaginative
ponderings. She has an artist boyfriend, a
torrid affair and she really gets involved in
her girl's lives, but because she knows she
is unique in being the only "cool" teacher at
the school with any spirit!
5. The Observer:
Capote: Capote is a 5. Always in his head, not very humble when it comes to
gloating about his talents. He not only wants to know everything
about a specific area of expertise (the murder case and murderers),
but he wants to be the person to tell the rest of the world about what
he knows. He prefers to be alone but recognizes the need to be
social every once in a while in order to tell everyone how fabulous he
is. It’s difficult to get him to talk about anything but himself because
he is so in his head and in his own world, so he has very few
friends.
Lolita (1962): James Mason plays a man with an obsession, a very reserved
and keeping to himself kind of man, but who is inspired by the
most out there and sexual unattainable woman he's ever
encountered. He has the most not-normal, but totally organic
reactions to events. He wants to own and count on Lolita, and
his obsession rules him. Like the scene when he takes her to a
hotel for the first time, he goes out onto the lobby porch for like
half an hour while she just falls asleep in the room...
wondering where he went...well, he needed to be alone,
but he did end up having a conversation with a man, but
he tried to get out of it for the first minute.
6. The Questioner:
phobic, she learns to fight back, thus making her a counter-phobic 6
who can kick a lot of ass if provoked! She has escape plans
and emergency money and extra clothes packed and she can
always make a quick getaway if she is discovered.
Sex and the City: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is a 6. Very analytical, always
asking questions and worrying. But likes to relax and have
fun as often as possible. Very conscious about what
others think of her and often obsesses.
( + BIG 7 = 6-7 couple, he’s more outgoing, capricious,
and he’s got that charisma that makes us all weak in the
knees!)
( + Aidan 9 = 6-9 couple, he’s more relaxed and easy-going
and understanding, he has far less anxiety than Carrie.)
7. The Adventurer:
Amadeus: Mozart (Tom Hulce) is portrayed as a 7. He is capricious and wild
and rebellious. He loves to be the center of attention in social
settings and he has boundless energy. He is concerned with
providing for his family, but more importantly, he wants ot have
lots of FUN! He has many projects and ideas for operas swimming
in his head at all times. He womanizes a bit also...
8. The Asserter:
Sex and the City: Samantha is an 8 with a 7 wing. She likes everything
intense, real, simple, and easy. She doesn’t play games,
she’s independent, and always says what she means and
no one is as important as she is. She’s selfish, demanding,
always wants to be in charge, and doesn’t put up with
wimps.
( + Smith 7 = 8-7 couple. He may be more of a 5 sometimes
because he’s pretty shy, but most of the time, he is very
charming and adventuresome and crazy. The perfect
match for Samantha to rise to her level of spontaneity
and fun seeking lifestyle.)
The Godfather Movies: Most prominent characters are 8s. The mob is a
scary, ruthless, extreme, and dangerous business, so
naturally, it attracts a lot of bossy and tough people.
These are eights. They all want to be the boss of
themselves and strive to gain status in order to boss
more people around beneath them. They are violent
and defensive and gregarious and live life to the
fullest. They eat a lot, drink a lot, smoke a lot, and like
the risk of gambling and of running a not quite legal
business. Party hard, Work hard, Fight hard.
9. The Peacemaker:
The Odd Couple: Oscar (Walter Matthau) is a 9 with an 8 wing.
Sloppy, stubborn, has a temper.
Thelma & Louise: Thelma (Geena Davis) is a 9. Very dirty and neglected
house, indecisive, doesn’t think ahead, easy-going, wants
to have fun. Has the capacity for showing some
agression.
